Troop 513 Adults List
Troop 513 has over a dozen volunteers who support the Scouting program in Stoneham. This group has over a century of Scouting experience, and many of them earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth.​
Every adult in our troop has completed a background check, role-based training, and regular training focused on how we can keep our youth members safe.

Key Leadership
Jim McLaughlin
Scoutmaster, Troop 513B

Jim is an Eagle Scout alumni of Troop 513 (and believed to be the first Scoutmaster to have done so). Jim took over as Scoutmaster in 2024. He has previously served as Cubmaster of Pack 540 and on staff at Parker Mountain Scout Reservation.
He is an army veteran and currently works as a firefighter with Stoneham Fire Department. Additionally, he is the co-chair of the Stoneham 300th Committee.
Jay Hansen
Troop Committee Chair

Jay has served as our committee chair for almost a decade. The father of an Eagle Scout, Jay's commitment to Scouting has seen him previously serve as Pack 540's Cubmaster.
Jay is a retired tin-knocker but now owns and operates Jbird Homeworx.
Rob Pawle
Scoutmaster, Troop 513G

Rob is an Eagle Scout from North Reading, MA. He's previously served as staff at T.L. Storer Scout Reservation, Cubmaster of Pack 540 and has led the organization of Troop 513G.
He works a professional chemist and has two children involved in Scouting: a son in Troopn513B and a daughter in Pack 540.
Rob Bardell
Chartered Organization Representative

Rob has been recognized as an Eagle Scout mentor more times that we can count. A staunch advocate for Scouting in the community, we are lucky to have him serve as our Chartered Organization Representative.
His son, Bryce, is an Eagle Scout. Rob is a veteran who works as the Facilities Manager at the First Congregational Church.

Chris Gardner
Assistant Scoutmaster

Chris Gardner earned Eagle Scout from Troop 513 in 2008. He has also served in leadership positions in the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, including his current role as the Section E19 Adviser.
Professionally, Chris works in Microsoft's Health and Life Science division.
Cheryl Zurbrick
Assistant Scoutmaster

Cheryl was active in Pack 540 for several years before helping to launch Troop 513G in 2025.
Professionally, Cheryl is a high school chemistry teacher in a local public school.
Ben McElhiney
Assistant Scoutmaster

Ben is an Eagle Scout originally from Western Massachusetts and is the father of two active Scouts.
Ben works in Collegiate Athletics and volunteers for many organizations, including the American Red Cross and the Boston Athletic Association.

Mark Warren
High Adventure Lead

Mark has been involved in Scouting since his time as a youth where he became a LIfe Scout with Troop 59 Wilmington. He had a life altering canoe trip which led him down the path of being an avid outdoorsman. In fact, Mark met his wife, Margaret, on an Appalachian Mountain Club trip and he continues to lead outdoor adventures for the AMC.
Professionally, he is an insurance professional, attorney, and educator.
